National Root Beer Float Day

Root Beer Float
National Root Beer Float Day is celebrated on August 6th of each year, and while the easiest way to make a root beer float is to put a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream into a frosty mug, and pour your favorite, icy cold root beer over it, we seem to have a knack for making everything a little more....interesting.

We're planning to prepare for National Root Beer Float Day a few days ahead of time so we can sit back and enjoy all our hard work on August 6th.

If you would like to join us on our journey, this is what we have planned...

About National Root Beer Float Day

We'll be learning how this delicious day got its start with some of the following resources.

A&W Restaurants: Root Beer Float Day - A&W restaurants are famous for their delicious root beer floats, and this year (2016), A&W restaurants are celebrating National Root Beer Float Day by offering a FREE root beer float to anyone who stops in between 2 p.m. and closing. Check out the site for more information.

Wikipedia: Root Beer Float - This link will take you straight to the root beer float section of the article. You'll find some alternative float combinations to try as well.

Holidays In Year: National Root Beer Float Day - Site offers a little information about the day, and if you like to plan ahead, it also has the day of the week it lands on over the next few years.

Recipes: Ice Cream & Root Beer

We're planning to make our own ice cream and root beer a few days in advance, here are some of the sites/videos we'll be choosing from.

Food.com: Root Beer Float Day & Black Cow - This site offers a few interesting ways to enjoy root beer in other foods, and a version of a root beer float made with chocolate syrup.

Experimenting with Root Beer Floats

We'll be experimenting with different types of homemade ice cream, made with alternative milks, to see if they can stand up to the homemade root beer we are planning to make.

While researching for this post, some people suggested that ice cream should go into a glass after the root beer, while others put the ice cream in first. We'll be doing some yummy experimenting with our root beer floats to compare methods.

In the past, we've tested out different flavors of ice cream and different brands of root beer to see which ones we like best. We found our favorite combos and you may find a new favorite too with this experiment!

If you decide to join us for this deliciously fun journey, let me know what your results were in the comments below. You can also make suggestions for other great resources.
